Quality and Testing

An ISO 9001:2015 certified quality system, an in-house laboratory that tests every lot, and lot-and-coil traceability from rod heat number to dispatch.

Certified Quality Management System

Indisteel's quality management system is certified to ISO 9001:2015 for the manufacture of annealed and drawn steel wire. Process controls, inspection plans, calibration and corrective action are documented and audited.

What we control

Eight Things a Wire Supplier Must Get Right

These are the checks that decide whether wire heads cleanly, holds size and heat-treats predictably — and how Indisteel controls each one.

Incoming Rod Verification

Every heat of rod is checked on our spectrometer against the mill certificate before it enters production — chemistry, hardness and microstructure are recorded against a new lot number.

Spheroidization and Decarburization Control

Annealed coils are examined under the microscope for spheroidization percentage and decarburization depth. Results are recorded coil-wise; a coil that misses the grade window is held, not shipped.

Hardness Window per Grade

Grade-wise annealed and as-drawn hardness ranges are defined in our masters and agreed with the customer. Every coil is tested on a Rockwell tester and judged against that window automatically.

Dimensional Control

Diameter and ovality checked with calibrated micrometers at start-up and during the run on every drawing machine, and again at final inspection.

Surface and Coating

Phosphate coating weight measured in the laboratory; wire surface inspected for scratches, scale and lubricant carry-over before packing.

Cold Formability

Dump (upset) tests and wrap tests confirm that the wire will head and form without cracking before it leaves the plant.

Calibrated Instruments

Hardness tester, UTM, micrometers and gauges are calibrated to a schedule under the ISO 9001 system, with records available for customer audit.

Traceability and Records

Lot, coil and furnace charge numbers on every tag; month-wise inspection registers; the full history of any coil retrievable from its tag number.

Laboratory

Testing Facility

Chemistry, hardness, tensile, microstructure and coating are all tested in-house, so a lot never waits on an outside laboratory — and the certificate reflects our own measurements.

Optical Emission Spectrometer

Full chemistry of incoming rod — C, Mn, Si, S, P, B, Cr, Mo and residuals — checked against the mill certificate

Rockwell Hardness Tester (HRB / HRC)

Hardness of rod, annealed coils and finished wire; coil-wise recording after annealing

Universal Testing Machine (UTM)

Tensile strength, yield and elongation; reduction of area

Metallurgical Microscope

Spheroidization percentage, decarburization depth and grain size

Phosphate Coating Weight Test

Coating weight by strip-and-weigh method on phosphated wire

Dump Test and Wrap Test

Cold-formability check for cold heading; ductility of drawn wire

Micrometers, Gauges and Measuring Instruments

Size, ovality and surface checks at every drawing machine and at final inspection

What Is Checked, and When

Inspection is tied to the process route. Each stage has its own record, and the results follow the coil on a printed tag.

Traceability

Every Coil Has a Number

Each rod heat received becomes a lot; each coil in the lot carries its own coil number; each annealing charge has a charge number. These follow the material through pickling, annealing, phosphating and drawing on printed tags with QR codes, and are recorded in our production traceability system. When you quote a lot number from our test certificate, we can pull the complete history of that coil.
