
Overview
Cold heading quality (CHQ) wire is the input for every bolt, screw, rivet and cold-forged part made on a header. The wire has to flow into a die without cracking, hold a tight size along the whole coil, and carry a surface that lets the tooling run without scoring. Indisteel makes CHQ wire for exactly this job.
We start from CHQ-grade wire rod sourced from JSW, Tata Steel, JSPL, Bhushan Steel and RINL (Vizag Steel), and take it through pickling, spheroidize annealing in nitrogen-atmosphere bell furnaces, zinc phosphating and drawing on inverted vertical drawing machines. Every lot is inspected in our own laboratory and ships with a material test certificate.

What is CHQ wire?
CHQ (cold heading quality) wire is steel wire processed specifically for cold heading and cold forging. It is made from rod with controlled chemistry and clean steel, then annealed to soften the structure and phosphate-coated so it can be formed in a die at room temperature without cracking or tool damage.
Which grade should I use for class 8.8 or 10.9 bolts?
Class 8.8 bolts are commonly made from 10B21 or 15B25; class 10.9 from 15B25, 10B35 or 15B41; class 12.9 from SCM 415, 41Cr4, 4140 or 4135. Our team can recommend a grade for your part, heat treatment and size.
Do you supply a test certificate?
Yes. Every lot ships with a material test certificate covering chemistry, mechanical properties and the process condition, traceable to the rod heat number.
